Thought of the Day: Mankind stands on the shoulders of the martyred.
To my most honourable lord Rhogan,
As you undoubtedly know, it was you yourself that tasked us with the interception of a caravan of illegal goods, and it was with a gusto that we set out on that task. After buying the necessary supplies with which to carry out an ambush we made our way to the intercept point and dug in. Though the wait was long our patience was rewarded with the appearance of the caravan. Unfortunately however it was Url who ruined our cover by stepping out of his dug out and spraying the enemy ineffectually with lasbolts disregarding my orders to stand down. Despite this set back, and the loss of Url, we successfully intercepted the caravan and even brought back a prisoner. Surely the Emperor (blessed is he by all) smiled upon such a development.
With your blessing to continue forward, we journeyed to the town of Nilka where the prisoner confessed that a local nobleman by the name of Raes was involved in the illegal trade. While infiltrating the castle proved quite easy to do, we unfortunately did not manage to find anything. Yet again however it seemed that the Emperor (may He eternally shine His light upon us) had lead us to a merchant who once was part of Raes’ inner circle. Naturally the information he related to us (mainly that of his plans for a coup) you already know. We quickly bound him up and left the town to report to you at this point.
Upon reporting back, you again asked us to venture back into the town of Nilka to exfiltrate said merchant. We came up with a glorious plan to set fires to lure him out and then whisk him away while the crowd was distracted. During the kidnapping however the guards proved too powerful for Scarlet and they smote her to the point of near death. Fortunately it was at this point that Virrus chose to appear with our get-away vehicle and assist in abducting the merchant. The get-away driving was done by me and quite skilfully with our horse and cart either swiftly overrunning obstacles under our steel shod hooves and wheels, or avoided altogether. Once more it was at this point that we reported to you and afterwards you gave us the new task of assassinating the Queen once you discussed it with Raes.
Quickly heading to the cathedral my military expertise was soon unveiled. While my comrades dithered around unsure of what to do, I quickly formulated a plan in which Scarlet would sneak around and scatter or kill all the horses, while Virrus and I were to lay down accurate fire with both carnodon and hunting rifle. Again ministering to those in my cell, the Emperor’s light (may He always illuminate the darkness!) was truly evident in the divine providence that followed for Scarlet had managed to sneak in undetected whilst intoning the prayer of invisibility. She carried out her mission flawlessly. Virrus and myself accounted for four of the enemy while the confusion reigned from Scarlet’s attack, and soon afterwards that number turned into seven as they sought to send out scouts to check the surroundings.
Soon afterwards we stormed the cathedral, keeping the civilian casualties to a minimum. A man in white sought to lead us to the queen in return for safe passage for the people. Fearing a trap he of course leaded the way. Ironically enough it was also him that triggered the trap thus alerting us to the presence of the few remaining guards of the queen. With my stout allies suffering grievous wounds from their autogun fire and grenades, it fell to me to storm the crypt and seize the day. By the Emperor (May his wrath forever cleanse the stars) was that martial action glorious, singlehandedly I swept into the room and with the wrath of the righteous, I slaughtered all of the queen’s guards. It was also I who slew the queen though Scarlet was quick to snatch the signet ring from her still warm body as proof of the kill.
As ever we are at your service and ready for our next assignment. May the heretics rue the day they decided to cross the Emperor!
The Emperor Protects,
Mathias Thule of Crimson Cell
